December Update from your Member of Parliament

Dear Friends and Neighbours,

As we step into the New Year, I want to extend my warmest wishes to you and your family for the holiday season and a happy, healthy start to 2026.

In mid-December, the House of Commons rose for the holidays, with Members of Parliament set to return later in January. I’m grateful for the opportunity this recess has given me to spend meaningful time here in Vancouver Quadra, connecting with constituents and meeting with local stakeholders.

As I reflect on the year behind us, I want to sincerely thank you for your continued support as I’ve taken on this role. I’m excited for all that the new year has to offer, and I look forward to the work ahead and all that we will accomplish and share together.

Vancouver Quadra Youth Council - Holiday Care Package Drive:

From September, the Vancouver Quadra Constituency Youth Council has done an outstanding job bringing youth priorities to the forefront of my office’s work.

Over the past two months, the youth council collaborated with local businesses, organizations, and schools to collect food, hygiene products, and gently used clothing in support of youth experiencing homelessness and survivors of human trafficking. They organized this drive in partnership with Covenant House Vancouver.

As a former board director of Covenant House, I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to continue to contribute to a cause so close to my heart. I’m incredibly proud of this exceptional group of young people and profoundly thankful for the meaningful contributions they continue to make to our community.

Vancouver Quadra Seniors Advisory Council - Roundtable with the B.C Senior’s Advocate Dan Levitt:

This month, the Vancouver Quadra Seniors Council was pleased to host a roundtable with B.C. Seniors Advocate Dan Levitt to discuss his office’s most recent report and recommendations to the Government of British Columbia, as well as the key concerns, trends, and challenges facing seniors in our community and across the province.

Across Canada, many seniors are increasingly experiencing isolation in their retirement years, while others face ageism, declining health, reduced mobility, poverty, and, in some cases, abuse. In response to these challenges, I am pleased that our riding was selected this year as a recipient of multiple grants from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program, which provided $125,000 to support local seniors in engaging with a range of artistic mediums, both in physical and virtual co-creation spaces, to help combat social isolation. I'm so pleased with this volume, which speaks to our efforts to deliver better outcomes for seniors in our community.

I am deeply appreciative of the important work undertaken by my Seniors Advisory Council. Their efforts have helped deliver real, tangible benefits for seniors here in Vancouver Quadra, and I thank them for their continued dedication to our community.

Climate Townhall with the Hon. Julie Dabrusin:

I was very proud to host my friend and colleague, the Hon. Julie Dabrusin, Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Nature (ECCC), at our constituency office for a discussion with local climate champions and key stakeholders on climate and environmental priorities. I also congratulate her on the addition of the Nature file and responsibility over the Canada Water Agency to her ministerial portfolio.

Under the Minister's leadership, ECCC has also had the pleasure of announcing the newly released methane, oil and gas regulations that our government has introduced. The Minister announced final regulations to reduce methane emissions from the oil and gas sector and landfills across Canada, marking a major step forward in driving down emissions and building a strong economy. The suite of regulations announced is a key pillar of Budget 2025’s Climate Competitiveness Strategy, designed to provide certainty for investors, reduce emissions, and drive investment in clean energy and technology, while reinforcing Canada’s commitment to address climate change, strengthen communities, support clean tech job creation, and solidify Canada’s leadership as global markets accelerate toward cleaner energy production.

I had the privilege of accompanying the Minister as our government announced over $4.5 million in funding for 39 new freshwater projects and five projects under the Fraser River Freshwater Ecosystem Initiative. These projects reflect our commitments in Budget 2025 to deliver concrete initiatives that improve water quality, biodiversity, and long-term environmental stewardship, while creating lasting economic and social value.

As her Parliamentary Secretary, I am honoured to stand beside Minister Dabrusin as our government continues to work tirelessly to ensure future generations inherit a cleaner, greener Canada.

Our government is making it easier and more accessible for families to explore Canada and embrace our beauty and history through the Canada Strong Pass. Canadians deserve to explore and discover, and the Canada Strong Pass is designed to put new experiences within reach. Visitors can enjoy free entry to national parks, historic sites, and museums from December 12, 2025, to January 15, 2026, no registration required. Up until January 15th, youth across Canada can take advantage of the following benefits:

Free admission for all visitors to Parks Canada sites like national parks, historic sites, and marine areas, plus 25% off camping fees;
Children 17 and under get free entry to national museums and free VIA Rail rides with an adult;
Youth 18-24 receive 50% off museum tickets and 25% off VIA Rail fares.

Celebrating the Holiday Season with Our Community:

It’s been a warm and eventful holiday season across Vancouver Quadra. I had a great time visiting the Dunbar, Brock House Society, and Musqueam Holiday Fairs. It was especially fulfilling to take in the local arts and crafts scene in our riding. I was amazed by the impressive work of our local artists and artisans, and by the strong support they received from people across Vancouver Quadra.

Stay Tuned for MP Breakfasts:

Starting in the new year, my office will begin hosting “MP Breakfasts” at our constituency office. These will be policy-focused, networking breakfasts that provide an opportunity for members of our community to discuss pressing and relevant issues and engage directly with me on matters of importance.

We will also be joined from time to time by subject-matter experts or fellow elected officials who can offer specialized insight on the topics being discussed. I would love to hear from you about which issues these breakfasts should focus on. If you have any thoughts, please reply to this email!
