Making Life More Affordable:
From speaking to residents across Vancouver Quadra, I've heard directly from many of you who are struggling to make ends meet. Since our first day in office, Canada’s new government has been focused on reducing the cost of living and creating new opportunities for Canadians. One of the first bills introduced this session was the Making Life More Affordable for Canadians Act. This delivered a middle-class tax cut, providing relief to nearly 22 million Canadians and eliminating the GST for first-time homebuyers. Budget 2025 builds on these efforts by:

Building a Stronger, More Resilient Economy:
While we cannot control the actions of other countries, as the Prime Minister said, we are masters in our own home, and our government is choosing to build. We are diversifying our trade, launching major nation-building projects, and catalyzing investment to make Canada the strongest, and fastest growing economy in the G7.
|
- Fast-tracking nation-building projects with provinces, territories, and Indigenous Peoples, adding $60 billion to our economy and creating thousands of jobs.
- Launching a Trade Diversification Strategy to expand opportunities for Canadian businesses, with a plan to double overseas, non-U.S. exports within a decade.
- A Buy Canadian Policy to support our lumber and steel industries, requiring government contractors to use Canadian materials.
- A Productivity Super-Deduction, offering enhanced tax credits that will lower costs, spur private investment, and help Canadian businesses grow while making Canada the most tax-competitive country for new business investment in the G7.
- A new Digital Jobs and Training Platform, reskilling for 50,000 workers and connecting Canadians to high-paying careers.
- Strengthening competition and consumer choice to lower costs by boosting telecom competition, making it easier to switch providers, advancing open banking and modernizing payments.

Building a strong economy for the future means building a clean one, and as we transition to net-zero, Canada is well positioned to take advantage of these new growth opportunities. Our Climate Competitiveness Strategy will accelerate investment to drive down emissions in key sectors, boost market access for Canadian exports, and grow jobs in our community. Budget 2025 includes measures that will drive growth in nuclear, hydro, wind, energy storage, and grid infrastructure to make Canada a leader in the low-carbon economy. Our government is determined to deliver on our promise of making Canada a clean energy superpower.
|
- We are strengthening industrial carbon pricing to reduce emissions and provide long-term certainty for businesses and investors.
- With Clean Economy Investment Tax Credits, we will supercharge affordable, net-zero energy projects that turn our natural wealth into lasting prosperity while protecting the planet.
- A new Youth Climate Corps will provide green skills training and job placements for young people, helping communities respond to climate emergencies, support recovery, and relieve strain on the Canadian Armed Forces.
- We are supporting Critical Mineral Projects that power the technologies and renewable energy infrastructure needed for the green transition including solar panels, electric vehicle batteries, and energy storage systems.
